30 Minute Eggs
So yesterday consisted of messing around with stuff and seeing what I came out with. Above is the end product of 30 minute eggs (recipe from Cooking with Geeks). Basically, I heated up a pan on low with a little butter, whisked two eggs together in a bowl and then dumped them in the pan that was still on low. The point of cooking them so slowly is so that they don't scramble, but instead become sort of custard-y. I cooked mine for a little over 15 minutes. I don't know if they were really "custard-y," but they were still pretty good. They were very smooth, texturally, and the yolk flavor was very prominent. I didn't flavor them more than just a little salt, but if you were to throw in Indian spices or something, I'm sure they'd be quite yummy. I'd be interested in trying this again with just the yolk or just the whites and seeing how the flavor and the cooking process changed.
Baked Strawberries
The reason I made these was I wanted to see what would happen if I baked strawberries in the oven - not drying at low heat, but actually trying to bake them. I sliced them up and popped them in at 375 for a few minutes. After first trying them, I added a little sugar. They didn't really work. The strawberries just got mushy and lost that wonderful strawberry taste. They weren't very good, I wouldn't make them this way again, but at least I understand what happens now.
